"The Beauty of Rejection - The Rejected Stone"

"The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone." — Psalm 118:22

Many years ago, Tim was the project manager for a commercial building project when a shipment of stone arrived at the job site. The mayor rejected the stone because it wasn't what he wanted. Since it couldn't be returned, it sat unused until the project was finished. When Tim was told to throw it away, he asked if he could keep it instead. He saw beauty and value that no one else could see, loaded it onto his truck, and stored it away for a future purpose.

Years later, after we were married, we purchased a home on a shoestring budget that needed a complete renovation. Tim remembered the forgotten stone. We installed it on the front of our home, and it completely transformed the house into a charming cottage. The very stone that had been rejected became its most beautiful feature.

This story reminds me of Psalm 118:22: "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone." The rejected stone is a powerful picture of Jesus Christ. Though rejected by many, He became the foundation of our salvation. It also reminds us that God often takes what the world discards and gives it extraordinary purpose.

Reflection - Have you experienced rejection? Perhaps it was from a job, a spouse, a child, a parent, or a friend. Rejection can leave deep wounds, but it does not determine your worth. Bring those hurts to God and allow Him to heal the places where rejection has settled in your heart.

Starving the Spirit of Rejection

  • Know your identity in Christ.
  • Ask God for endurance, hope, and healing from this experience.
  • FORGIVE those who rejected you.
  • Seek godly counsel, always. Seek a trauma counselor. If you live in GA, message me.
  • Keep moving forward and don't let rejection define your future.

Jesus understands rejection more than anyone. He was rejected, crucified, and laid aside for a time—but through Him came victory and new life.

If you have been rejected, remember this: God is not finished with your story. Just as the rejected stone was saved for the perfect moment and became the centerpiece of our home, God is preparing you for His purpose. You are chosen by Him, and in His perfect timing, He will place you exactly where you belong.

Allow yourself to heal! Allow yourself to come alive again! God knows exactly where you are, and in His perfect timing, He will bring you into the place He has prepared for you. Someone may have rejected you—but God has already chosen you.

And when He places you where you belong, you will shine!
